The endocannabinoid system is comprised of three components--receptors, enzymes, and endocannabinoids. Whether or not a person uses CBD, these three components will function. However, when CBD endocannabinoids are used, they bind to receptors that are present throughout the entire human body.


There are two types of receptors: CB1 & CB2. Our central nervous system contains CB1 receptors, while the CB2 receptors are located in the peripheral nervous system.


Enzymes of the human body break down CBD cannabinoids, causing our pre-existing endocannabinoids to bind with both receptors. In this way, CBD does not directly bind to our receptors, but rather influences our own endocannabinoids to bind, which restores balance.


When balance is restored within our endocannabinoid system, our CB1 & CB2 receptors influence both the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system.
